Tales Of A Woman Married To Self Doubt

Featured

Name: Tony
Age: 22
Sex: Female
Marital Status: Married… To Self Doubt for 22 years

They met at birth and he chose her.

He was arrogant and very selfish. Knew everything and didn’t wanna be told anything. He had life figured out.

Doubt was a powerful man but nobody would admit they’re associated with him. He was popular and could have his way with anyone. He didn’t even try to be known but he was everybody’s friend.

All those years she didn’t take note of his power until the age of 10.
Tony started a new school in a different town… New surroundings, new friends, everything was just different and new. Now doubt would soar under such circumstances.

Pause on that.

Tony was a black, girl child raised by a very solid single mother; but you know in a coloured/black family, EVERYBODY raises you: Your Mom, your granny, your grandpa, your aunt, your uncles, the neighbours, your cousins and basically your community. She was raised well, had most things she wanted. Went to good schools, the material that brushed against her bright, yellow skin was the finest. Tony was the living the dream all the kids in the hood wanted.

Young performer; She sang her heart out. From home to creche to primary school, to high school, to college… She sang everywhere and left a memory of her.

During this time her innocence blinded her husband, Self Doubt. He couldn’t do anything.

At the age of 10, she and her mother moved to start a life of their own in a different town. She started at a new school; met different teachers and different peers.

The moment she felt alone, her husband, Doubt, called her out. He was there. Waving in her face, questioning her… Wanting to know how come she’d never acknowledged his presence in her life.
Now, Doubt was a master of reverse psychology and Tony always fell for that. Didn’t matter who you were; if you placed her in that psychological position, you’d win. Done.

The 1st day at her new school, before she went through the gate, Doubt shoved her in a nearby shrub and told her she’s not like everyone else and she’ll never be good enough and said to her “But you can try” with a silly smirk on his face. Pulled her back up and shoved her through the gate.
All that lingered in her head was his words: “You’re not like all these kids. You’re fat, you’re black, you’re ugly and you’ll never be good enough. But you can “try””

She thought the problem was her, not realising how toxic Doubt was.

To be continued…

Alessia Cara – Wild Things (Lyrics)

Alessia Cara – Wild Things (Lyrics)

Wild Things - AC

Verse 1:

Find table spaces
Say your social graces
Bow your head, they’re pious here
But you and I, we’re pioneers
We make our own rules
Our own room, no bias here
Let ’em sell what they are sellin’
There are no buyers here

So gather all the rebels now
We’ll rabble-rouse and sing aloud
We don’t care what they say, no way, no way
And we will leave the empty
Chairs to those who say we can’t sit there
We’re fine all by ourselves

Chorus:

So aye, we brought our drum and this is how we dance
No mistakin’, we make our breaks
If you don’t like our 808s
Then leave us alone, ’cause we don’t need your policies
We have no apologies for being

Find me where the wild things are
Oh, my, we’ll be alright
Don’t mind us, yeah
Find me where the wild things are
Oh, my, we’ll be just fine
Don’t mind us, yeah
Find me where the wild things are

Verse 2:

I lose my balance on these eggshells
You tell me to tread
I’d rather be a wild one instead
Don’t wanna hang around the in crowd
The cool kids aren’t cool to me
They’re not cooler than we are

Chorus:

So aye, we brought our drum and this is how we dance
No mistakin’, we make our breaks
If you don’t like our 808s
Then leave us alone, ’cause we don’t need your policies
We have no apologies for being

Find me where the wild things are
Oh, my, we’ll be alright
Don’t mind us, yeah
Find me where the wild things are
Oh, my, we’ll be just fine
Don’t mind us, yeah

Bridge:

We will carve our place into time and space
We will find our way, or we’ll make a way, say hey, hey, hey
Find you’re great, don’t you hide your face
And let it shine, shine, shine, shine, shine, shine

Chorus:

So aye, we brought our drum and this is how we dance
No mistakin’, we make our breaks
If you don’t like our 808s
Then leave us alone, ’cause we don’t need your policies
We have no apologies for being

Find me where the wild things are
Oh, my, we’ll be alright
Don’t mind us, yeah
Find me where the wild things are
Oh, my, we’ll be just fine
Don’t mind us, yeah
Find me where the wild things are

The Month Of…

♥Alessia Cara♥

alescara.jpg

A few years back (2015 to be precise), I visited a  friend of mine – Myrtle Stewards – at her new place in Pretoria. She had just moved there, started a new job and I owed her a visit.
In attempts to pay my dues, the Charleen Mahery-Sithole way; after seeing SA Idols auditions adverts, I suggested she and I go audition at the State Theatre one weekend – seeing that we’re both singers. She was in and we made it happen. Ons is mos so gebore, mense wat dinge laat gebeur… wakena?

I arrived on a Friday evening and what a joy it was being reunited with a mate my soul loves after such a long time.♥
Okay… blaze-blah, woopti-woo – to cut a long story short: we had a herb session and she introduced me to a white girl called Alessia Cara that I somehow just vibrated with instantly.

Alessia Cara On Stage

I found her quite refreshing and soulful; not the typical Jazzy-Loungey soulful but an innocent type of soulful – if that makes any sense. Her voice was a little high-pitched but it had a husk to it that lured me to listen; her lyrics, on the other hand, were beautifully written and relatable.
I have a thing for words. Words are powerful beyond measure, especially if juxtaposed ‘the right way’. Her lyrics portrayed that perfectly.
That was enough… I was sold and got to learn a little bit about this beautiful, extraordinary musician.

This month I dedicate to sharing this artist with you through a #RearView of her and lyrics from my favourite Alessia songs; therefore we will March to this musical gem!

Alessia Caracciolo, known professionally as Alessia Cara is a Canadian singer and songwriter was born July 11, 1996. She’s basically Born-Free in South African terms but it’s whatever
As a child, the currently 21 year old wrote poetry and did theatre. She began playing guitar at the age of 10 and taught herself how to play various songs.
At the age of 13, the Italian honey began her own YouTube channel where she posted covers of songs that she performed. After producing acoustic covers she signed with Def Jam Recordings and released her debut single, “Here“.
Which is one of my favourite songs and one of the first to land in my ears actually. She basically narrates how everyone secretly hates parties – well, I don’t know about everyone but she voices how I tend to feel when I’m out.

From there on it was all-roads-gwaan for her and how grateful I am to be blessed with her talents in this physical lifetime.♥
She went on to collaborate with quite a number of made artists and won plenty awards. even a Grammy… Levels!!!Alessia-Cara-Best-New-Artist-Grammy.jpg

I’ll post some of my favourite songs by her throughout this March; you can however check out her 2015 album titled “Know It All” and enjoy.
I hope 2018 is the year of a new album from Alessia, I’ve been waiiiiiiting!

Peace and Blessings,

Charleen

Every day we have plenty of opportunities to get angry, stressed or offended. But what you’re doing when you indulge these negative emotions is giving something outside yourself power over your happiness. You can choose to not let little things upset you.
